I have been thinking about starting “The Smile Project” to help me focus on the happy things in life and make the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life.
My Bouquet of Smiles for today: 😀
1) The bark of a human:
I have been in another world of my own all day and finding it very hard to focus on the present. It’s tiring to be thinking about useless things endlessly but sometimes no matter how hard you try to distract your mind, it just won’t happen. Anyway, after a day of crappy thoughts, I got home from work and sat down. I started thinking about what I need to do tonight and for 40 mins or so I just kept thinking without actually getting up. Tired of myself, I got up from the couch and said, “Look how she is barking continuously” (in my own language) and burst out in laughter. From then on, I did not sit until I had finished doing everything I wanted to do.
2) Clickin’ heaters:
The heaters in my apartment are so old they won’t stop making click-click noises. All day, all night that’s what they do. It’s their full-time job to annoy me. Or so I thought up until today when I noticed a rhythm in their clickin’ and followed along. It sounded like drums. I could totally predict what would happen next and the rhythm just made me want to dance. Again, such a simple thing, eh?
Every day I have been focusing too much on how cold it is, how some things just won’t change no matter what, and suffering as a result of these thoughts. But I think I shouldn’t have to suffer. I might not be the greatest person on earth but I am sure that I am not a bad person. So here’s to the days that are yet to come and to the smiles that have yet to appear on my face.
Thanks a lot for reading. 🙂
