[Dec 16] What made me smile today?

Date: Dec 16, 2014

“The Smile Project” is about focusing on the happy things in life and making the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life. You can join as well. 🙂

My Bouquet of Smiles for Today and the Weekend:

1) The Fear of Freeze-up:

This morning my boss came into my office, informed me that temperatures were expected to drop down -20/-25C again tonight and asked me what was going to happen to me tomorrow (because I walk to work) lol. I thought he was joking around to freak me out so I said,  “I guess I’ll be sick tomorrow.” lol He laughed and said, “Duly noted.” haha

2) The Solution to Data problems:

This was exciting. I find found a vision that presents all the data on one piece of paper without having to write any code. Creating dashboards in Excel!! :)) I had been trying to put together a data summary in Studio (a software used to query databases) and it just wasn’t working out the way I wanted it to. Luckily, someone gave me access to lots of Excel tutorials on how to create dashboards in Excel and the power of the charting techniques just amazed me. The instructor was able to create amazing charts by simply using formatting techniques. It was so cool I was blown away.

3) The Story of the Projector:

I had a meeting in which I needed a projector. Usually my boss has a projector set-up in his office but today he had it wrapped up in his bag. I went to his office and told him I needed to use it. A lil’ frustrated, he started setting up the projector and said he would have set it all up if I had told him in advance. I told him that I didn’t know he carried the projector around with him everywhere to show people presentations. He laughed lol.

4) The Ketchup Noodles:

When I was a child, my mother used to make these noodles with onion, cabbage, peas and ketchup. Rather than trying to stick something in the oven for an hour, I decided to make those noodles today and it me very happy. The crispness in the fried onion alongside with fried cabbage, topped with peas and ketchup is my favourite. To a lot of people, it sounds like a weird combination but fried onion and cabbage are normal for asian dishes.

5) The Warmth of a Friend:

Having an old friend of mine still in my life makes me smile. I know as people grow up they lose contact but I feel that if people truly care about you, they will always find a way back into your life. And you know what? Even though at some point in life they were not there, you never lost them because you were always present in their heart.

6) The Continuation of Jingle Bells:

In my mind, I continue to create songs to the tune of Jingle Bells and they continue to make me smile.

Today’s Conclusion

I feel that Love is forever. Yes, people come and go, but Love stays. People change and so does what they want out of life, but Love never changes. Love grows. Love cares. Love repents. Love regrets. Love waits. But Love…never judges. Love sees you in your own light under which you can really be you, and at that, Love smiles. Only Love is real.

❄ Thanks a lot for reading. 🙂 ❄

Have an awesome day/night ahead,

  1. Love….. It makes me teary eyed … When I was a kid, on some rare occasions when mom let me make my own maggi, I used to pour and pour ketchup till it became red !!!

  2. Geez I don’t know what just happened. I was typing away and suddenly the system spit up and published my comment and I was not finished! Ketchup Noodles sounds like comfort food for you. I have things that we ate a lot when I was growing up that is comfort food for me now. My best friend from 9th grade moved away just as we were going into 10th grade. I haven’t heard from her since. About 5 years ago she called me and came by to see me. She and her husband was in town. I won’t tell you how many years it had been but it had been a LOT. Yes, love is just what you described it as. Have a wonderful evening and sleep well. 🙂

    • I thought the difference was 32 but when I googled -20CinF, it shows -4F so I dono. I think there’s a formula behind it. And the dashboards aren’t anything new but a way of putting together a bunch of charts on one page and having them display different data based on changing selections in a drop down. I am glad you were able to see your friend after such a long time ago. It must have felt awesome! You have a good night as well 🙂

  3. Brrr! That sounds cold! What is -20- -25C in relation to Farenheit? (What is the difference, 30 degrees?) I hope you don’t freeze walking to work! When I was working I worked with Excel quite a bit, but I don’t remember ever working with dashboards in Excel. It is great you found the solution you have been looking for. Also, it sounds like your boss is a pretty cool guy. You’re lucky! I have never eaten Ketchup Noodles but it sounds like it is comfort fooooo

Leave a few smiles!
