[Dec 11] What made me smile today?

Date: Dec 11, 2014

“The Smile Project” is about focusing on the happy things in life and making the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life. You can join as well. 🙂

My Bouquet of Smiles for Today:

1) The Request for an Off Day:

My boss was working from another city today so I sent him an email asking if I could take a day off. I did not hear back. I knew he probably hadn’t had the time to look at his emails at all as he was busy so I jumped at the opportunity to ask him through an instant message as soon as I saw him online. I said, “Can I take a day off tomorrow?” He said, “No, but you can take a day off.” LOL! He’s funny!

2) The Data Breakdown:

Data breakdown. Brain breakdown. I don’t know what to call this. For days, I have been trying to find the best way to combine a bunch of data together into a compact report and failing. The amount of detail confuses me and I often feel lost. So I watched a few data breakdown videos today and it recommended to break it down into raw, analysis and presentation. My first thought was that it was going to be a waste of time but when I started typing, I realized how much I needed to do this. I am the kind of the person who needs to have the big picture all laid out in front of me and then everything starts to make sense. I also feel more accomplished if I can break tasks down into smaller activities that I can just check off as I complete them. I was so happy I had finally found what works for me. I am so grateful for my determination to keep looking for the answers I need.

3) Christmas Songs with Cats:

A quick YouTube search reveals a lot of Christmas song playlists. I found a version with cats. It’s probably made for kids, I am not sure. But omg, I love it!!! It makes me laugh so much. The words are the same but it’s the way the songs are sung lol. My favorite is the “ring ting ting” part in We Wish You a Merry Christmas. You have to hear it to understand lol. Here it is:

4) The Cute Guy:

A random cute guy said hello and asked me how my day was going and stuff. 😛

5) The Planting:

One of my coworkers didn’t want her office plant so I took it. I have been wanting to replant the overgrown part and now it is sitting on my dining table in a lil jar of water. It looks simple and pretty. Just the way I like it. 🙂

6) The Walk to the Lake:

It was another one of those PLUS temperature days so I decided to go to the Lake right after work. I left my stuff at home and then went out immediately so I can get back before it gets dark. It was nice being out. The snow is no longer heavy. It feels like its soul has left and now it’s just weightless and empty lmao. The lake was all frozen as expected but the sunset was beautiful as usual!! There weren’t many people around. I took a few pictures and came back home. It felt refreshing.

7) The Making of Ghee:

It has been such a long time since I I had to make ghee on my own. My mother had given me a 1.5 kg jar of ghee when I moved away but I finished it all. After a few experiments and google searching, I finally made it without burning it. So happy about this accomplishment. Won’t have to do this for another 4 months hopefully.

Today’s Conclusion

I was feeling very tired again today. Drinking tea did not help either. Just when I was getting annoyed over my data breakdown problems (lol) and thinking I will have nothing to smile about today, things started to flow. So my lesson for today is….

Before being anywhere else, be right here.

Be right in this moment with yourself.

Sometimes life will feel long, sometimes short.

Don’t worry. Don’t fret.

In this moment, be right here with yourself.

Thanks a lot for reading. 🙂

Have an awesome day/night ahead,

  1. OMG !! The kittens are so adorable,I laughed the part when the kitten jumps on the pudding and Santa sinks !! 😀 You know ‘Ghee’ ! I thought only Indians use it.

  2. Before I forget, what is Ghee? Sounds like you had a very good day. You figured out your problem at work. Your boss sounds like a lot of fun! You got a new plant. You went to the lake and took some awesome pictures. Oh, and a cute guy was “sweet on ya.” Hee hee!
