The story of how I became interested in Photography.
My passion for Photography began in Summer 2009 when I was living in downtown Toronto. Being in the middle of skyscrapers every day inspired me to want to capture them. The more I looked at them, the more I dreamt. With every head lift hovered a smile on my face and an aspiration in my heart. How can something possibly be so tall that it feels like it is going to touch the sky? With the dream of capturing the beauty of downtown Toronto that summer, I managed to get a small camera to take pictures. Unfortunately though, I don’t have one of the first photographs I took as they vanished with the hard drive failure of my old computer.
I do not remember using the camera extensively after I moved away to Waterloo where I was attending university at the time. Until one day of course. I had not slept that night at all. It was during the time when I had stopped going to classes as I could not figure out what I really wanted to do with my life career-wise. I do not exactly remember whether something was on my mind that night or whether my sleep cycle was messed up (which happened often in university days). I do however remember feeling as if I was walking in the dark and no matter how far I went, I could not find any door. It was somewhere around 6 or 6:30 in the morning when I finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep and decided to go for a walk. I picked up my camera and headed to the park.
I don’t remember seeing any people. The sun was shining very brightly almost blinding me at times. For about half-an-hour or so, I forgot about the world and just took pictures. It was like I was in a different world where I was alone but complete. Where chasing the sun rays and squirrels was a normal thing to do. Where life was adventurous and full of play. Where I could sit near the train tracks and wonder when the train might pass by. Where I could communicate silently with nature. Where everything was beautiful the way it was. Where I was just me. And the most wonderful thing of all was that all of it could be captured. With the camera in my hand. So… although it may not feel like at times, but life really is wonderful. That is what I learnt that day.
You can check out a very small collection of my every day photos on my Instagram profile. Some day I hope to publish photo books using my photographs and have recently started working towards that goal. Good luck to me! 🙂
Meanwhile…..smile! *camera emoticon*
