[Dec 10] What made me smile today?

Date: Dec 10, 2014

Introduction

“The Smile Project” is about focusing on the happy things in life and making the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life. You can join as well. 🙂

My Bouquet of Smiles for Today:

1) The Christmas Lunch:

Today was the Christmas lunch day at the work cafeteria and that meant lots of Christmas food was going to be served. After a very long time, I got an opportunity to eat so many different dishes at the same time. The lunch included turkey, stuffing, boiled vegetables, mashed potatoes with bacon, cabbage roll, coleslaw and a pie of choice. 😀 I knew I would never be able to finish it all but I was overjoyed by the wide variety of food. I saved the leftover food in the fridge for tomorrow. For the pie, I tried the Coconut cream pie as I had never eaten it before. I wouldn’t say it was the best but how would I have known if I had tried? And lastly, a funny thing happened. When I had ordered my food, they were still making Coleslaw and that meant I had to wait for it. But I must have forgotten. I realized it when the cafeteria lady searched the entire Cafeteria, found me and said, “You forgot to wait for the salad” LOL! Thank god I hadn’t left to eat in my office like I had originally planned to haha

2) The Warm Weather Walk :

The other half of the lunch was an opportunity to enjoy the PLUS 6C weather today. I cannot emphasize it enough. It was PLUS 6C lol on Dec 10, 2014. It was amazing! For the first time in almost 2 months, I walked out of the office with only one jacket on and absolutely no gloves or scarfs. The snow was melting and the water was flowing away. It was as if it was Spring. I walked about 3 blocks up and down and enjoyed the cool air. I don’t think I have ever been able to appreciate the coolness of air before. For me, as soon as the air cools, it’s time for sad months. But today was different; it felt SO awesome to just take my hood off and let the cool air touch my face even if just for a few seconds. I was happy to have taken a walk while it is warm because next week, it is going to freeze again. But you know what? I am not going to be sad about what’s ahead because when that time comes, I’ll make the effort to make the best of it too.

3) The Kinky Birthday Gift:

LOL

A coworker shared pictures of a birthday gift she had made for someone. It included a sausage hanging from a cupboard with bags of roasted nuts on each side. She had pictures from the front and side and everything hahaha. I am laughing even writing about it. It was so funny, creative and handmade!! LOL

4) The Broken Gems:

A bunch of pink ice balls had been sitting in the park for a few days. Not sure why they were there to begin with, but today, I saw them shattered into pieces. They looked like pink gems. Then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a rainbow skating rink?” Or perhaps a park with various coloured ice sculptures or just ice in different shapes? It would be a great art project for Winter. Thinking about walking through such a place excites me!!!

Today’s Conclusion

Today was an exciting day. I had finally caught up on my sleep and was on the go all day. I have realized that how you feel depends on 2 things: mind and body. If your mind is thinking positively but your body is continuously saying, “I am tired; leave me alone,” you won’t feel very good. So it’s important to take care of yourself in both aspects. As I continue with the Smile Project though, I sometimes want to cry. Not because I am sad but because of the realization that there are so many things to be happy about in life and the fact that I have never stopped to think so. What the hell, eh?

Thanks a lot for reading. Life is good. 🙂

Stay warm,

IshKishMish <3
