“The Smile Project” is about focusing on the happy things in life and making the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life. You can join as well. 🙂
My Bouquet of Smiles for Today:
1) Being home:
Being home and just being home in this cold and eating awesome food made me happy.
2) The Random Dances:
It is a tradition in our family to dance on any occasion that we can get together on lol. Birthdays, festivals, a boring weekend, you name it LOL!. After all, we are Punjabis; if we lose the will to dance, we would have no energy to live life. So that is what happened on Christmas. Everyone got together, ate, danced and then ate again. lol
3) The New Living Room:
My parents upgraded their couch recently and it is white in colour. It was proudly chosen by me and my parents had agreed that it was comfy and awesome. The living room looks soooo fancy with it that it takes my heart away. On top of the couch are my favourite lights which turn on in 3 steps. On first twist, the middle 2 lights turn on; on second twist, the outer 2, and on third twist, all 4. It feels so cool to be on the couch, under the lights and turning them on and off all the time LOL!
4) The Purchase of Phones:
On Boxing Day, most of my family members upgraded their very old phones to very new ones. I, on the other hand, purchased my first cell phone after 5 years of being phoneless. Shocked? Don’t be! There was a time in this world when no one had cell phones and people were still able to live their lives perfectly haha. Anyways, eventually we spent an entire afternoon setting up our phones and ensuring we can all video chat with each other through them.
5) The Family Photoshoot:
My mother had this vision of having a family photo with everyone together and hanging it in the living room. So we all got dressed up and spent an entire evening taking photos. Finally, we had tons of photos on 4 different devices and still no final decision on which one is good enough to be printed and framed LOL!
6) The Greediness for Food:
Due to unexpected burst of anger, I decided to bury myself in my blanket in the basement, away from all living beings. After several visits from many people requesting me to come upstairs, I just didn’t feel like getting up. Then my brother showed up, informed me that the Turkey was done and put a piece of Turkey into my mouth. That was it. Nothing was worth missing such a delicious dinner.
7) The Once Infant:
A cousin I had last seen as an infant of 6 months was walking around and speaking and everything lol. The little 2 year old did not have many words to express herself but she was perfect at singing “Tum Hi Ho” (translated “You are the only one”) along with the YouTube video. It was also fun to make her run around while pretending to want to capture her.
8) The Unexpected Presents:
Let’s just say I got some presents 😉
Today’s lesson is about realizing what God wants for you. A month ago, I went to a Stress Management session in which the speaker, Darren Lang, shared tips on how to manage stress and how it had affected him in his life. You can read his story here. What I could relate to in his story was the Fear. The constant fear that something could possibly go very wrong. The fear that something could go wrong any day, any time and snatch everything away from you. That people could break your heart and leave you suffering……
So I thought very carefully about what God wants for me. I have believed in God ever since I was a child but when life became difficult, my faith in him started to shake. I thought, “If God really exists and thinks of me as his child, how could he make me suffer? If he loves me and cares for me, how could he not protect me from suffering?” After years of searching for answers to these questions, I am happy to report that I have finally found them.
I know that God speaks to people in different ways and I feel that for me, ever since I was a child, God has wanted me to be a person full of love and life. I know that he wants me to be a person whose laughter and smiles can fill any place with happiness and joy. So much so that even flowers will bloom when I look at them. Today I know with absolute certainty that that is what God wants for me. I now know what my friend had meant when he had said, “In time, you will have all the answers” years ago. It doesn’t mean that the world will become a better place or that people will stop hurting you; it means that no matter what happens, you can always walk out of darkness if you Believe. To Believe that although life will present you with difficult times and make you think that God is no longer with you, He is. He can see you; He can hear you; He can see your pain and that with every passing moment, he is watching you grow. The answer I got in time is that no matter what kind of place you are in right now, if you work hard to believe that good things can happen and will happen for you, everything will solve itself in time. Believing ignites a light within us that no one can diminish. May that light always be within you.
❄ Thanks a lot for reading. 🙂 ❄
PS – I won’t be posting every day anymore due to time constraints (probably only 1-2 times a week). Stay warm as the Arctic Air makes its way through North America again.
Have a good day/night,
