“The Smile Project” is about focusing on the happy things in life and making the effort to record and remember them. By the end of this project, I hope to have a huge list of things that made me smile at some point in life. You can join as well. 🙂
My Bouquet of Smiles for Today and the Weekend:
1) A Day of Crafts:
I have been wanting to indulge myself in crafts lately. Indulge meaning getting lost in it completely for a few hours. It used to be my thing to get lost in the world of paint and paintbrushes for an hour or two every few weeks. It has been a while since I held a paint brush. The last time I painted anything was for the Flowery Fridays intro poster which was more than a month ago. For some reason though, painting with a theme does not satisfy me. I have to get lost and see what I find. It’s almost like a craving. So after a week of ignoring this need of wanting of paint, I finally decided to take out the paint and wondered what I can do with the paper that came with the delivery of my online orders. I wanted to make flowers. I looked up some youtube tutorials and the found the idea of pompoms very fascinating lol. I made two and painted them. Unfortunately, they did not turn out very well. I knew they wouldn’t be great because the paper wasn’t soft enough but it wasn’t bad for a test run. Then I painted freely for a while and also created a painting for The Smile Project (pik at the end of the post). Overall, it was amazing to dedicate an afternoon to something that I enjoy doing alone.
2) The Dollar Store Visit:
As I was walking through the dollar store, I saw a painting that said, “When I said, “I do,” I didn’t mean dishes.” Hah!
3) A Clean Apartment:
On Saturday, I took the opportunity to clean my apartment. Not that I don’t usually clean, but I always do it at the end of the day or end of the weekend so I don’t get to “enjoy” the cleanliness around me LOL. I swept; I mopped. The floors were shining and I? Was walking around feeling like a modal in my own house lol. I love cleanliness and tidiness. It brings me joy.
4) A Day of Cooking :
On Sundays, I usually like to cook. And when I cook, it’s non-stop for hours. Usually by the end of it I don’t know what I have even made lol. I made a few things to last me a couple of days and prepped veges, chicken, pasta etc so that they can be cooked immediately when needed. Banana bread cake (lol) was a little overdone but not burnt. Thank god, I haven’t eaten a baked good as much as this banana bread since a very long time ago.
5) The Controversy of Hunger:
Mondays are terrible. You get used to sleeping in on weekends and then have to wake up early on Monday. Oh my god. The sleeping schedule suffers miserably. It sucks. Lack of sleep does not make me feel good at all. And on some terrible days, I don’t feel like eating at all. On top of that, you buy a soup so all you have to do is gulp it down rather than eat it and it disappoints you. Yes, the soup I bought sucked. It sucked so much that I actually wanted to throw it away after not having finished even a third of it. I can’t blame it all on the soup though. I am picky when I am tired and annoyed. Half of the lunch hour was gone trying to gulp down that soup and I was going to do what I don’t like doing: not eat lunch at all. I was seriously annoyed for having spent money on something that I didn’t even like. So that’s when I decided to make better use of the other half of the lunch hour. I went down to the mall and got my comfort food these days – Pita, Chicken Souvlaki and Greek Salad. The thin layer of parmesan on hot pita bread is what I seem to enjoy these days. I am so happy I decided to go to the mall and get something to eat rather than making myself suffer from the disappointing soup. I mean lack of sleep is enough to make yourself feel like shit and to add lack of food on top of that? No, never do that to yourself. Ever.
6) The Random Dances:
This is the cutest thing about me. Ever since I started learning to dance, I randomly start dancing in my apartment. I came home from work and was just putting down my mail when I noticed myself shaking it a lil’ :D. I guess I was glad that this long tiring day was over.
7) Stuck on You:
When I left this morning, I forgot to put water in the pot I had prepared tea in. At first glance, I thought, “OMG, that’s gonna be so hard to clean!!” On second thought, I thought, “I’m stuck on you.” and smiled. The tea bag was stuck to the side of the pot lol. It never hurts to try to change your views, right?
8) Credit Card Cancellation:
This was the weirdest thing ever. I have been waiting to cancel this credit card for days and when I called today, I found out that it could just be done by pressing numbers, without even having to talk to anyone. I went through the 30 second menu and it said my credit card was cancelled. I was not convinced so I decided to talk to a customer service rep. After a million verification questions, he assured me it was cancelled. Technology is advancing everyday. I didn’t have to wait for so long to get this done but I am glad it is over. Phew!
9) Let it Snow:
It was snowing today and I heard someone in the office say, “Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!”
Today’s lesson is about mistakes. People makes mistakes. All day long, that’s what they do. You could have not had a very great presentation; you could have misunderstood someone; you could have gotten a 98 on your exam rather than a 100; you could have lost someone due to your behaviour; you could have not achieved what you actually wanted in a certain activity. That…is ok. It is only by making mistakes we become better. It is only by trying something we come to know what works for us and what doesn’t. Remember that you make mistakes because you are not a robot. So don’t try to make yourself into one. Try instead to not let your mistakes become nails that slowly hammer down into your head coz I can tell you – nails are very sharp and they hurt very much lol. So when you make a mistake, accept it and welcome it into your life like a gift, then reflect on it and move on. Do not hate your mistakes. Mostly importantly, do not hate yourself for your mistakes. Remember: life is not that bad and we don’t have to make it feel like it is either.
