How to find light in darkness?

This article is in continuation to last week’s article in which I was exploring how you can your choices as a tool to be happier in life. You can read last week’s article here. When something hits you hard enough to shake you to your very core, how can you keep on believing that there is still hope? How can you still continue believing that the world is an amazing place and awesome things are going to happen for you in the future? How can you throw away the effect of what life has thrown your way and keep on…

Choices…

In life, we always have to make choices. Choices determine the kind of life we will lead. Choices set the path we are going to walk on everyday. In the past, I had heard the phrase, “Choose to be happy” and it never made sense. How can you choose to be something you are not? How can you choose to be happy when you are sad? What the heck? Seriously! Choices… One of the choices that impact our lives in a dramatic yet invisible way is how we choose to think about the possibilities, events, actions etc in our lives.…

There are no 2 kinds of people

I often hear people say that there are two kinds of people: the ones who think positively and the ones who think negatively. Positive people are known to think of failures as opportunities and negative people are known to beat themselves down about their failures. But the thing is that even though at times, I, myself, tend to say the same thing, I am not convinced that this is true. What this categorization reveals is not Real Reality of people but what I call the Surface Reality. The Surface Reality focuses on how people act and behave and conclusions about…

Be Patient with Yourself

In many countries today, the concept of accomplishment has changed. When we were growing up, getting a mark of 92 on an exam was viewed as “You missed by 8 marks.” (View 1) not as “You have accomplished 92.” (View 2) If you are wondering how these 2 views are any different at all, you probably grew up in the same kind of environment as well. If each mark was a step to get to 100 (ie the final destination), then having obtained a 92 means you are 92 steps into achieving your ultimate goal NOT that you missed your…

Worry

Every day, all day, we worry. We worry about life as it is and we worry about what could possibly become of it tomorrow. We worry whether we’ll reach any of our goals we set for ourselves and we worry whether we are even capable of accomplishing them. We worry whether everything will work out for the people that we love so dearly. We worry about the world changing every day. It’s almost as if in addition to our daily full-time job, our second 24/7 job is to worry. Life is so scary at times and all the changes and…

Consider Your Life Preciously

I recently watched a historical korean drama called The Night Watchman. The idea behind the show was that ghosts and spirits take over the royal family and lead it to its demise. The evil spirits attack king’s young son and the king leaves the palace to kill them in order to protect his son. He succeeds. After returning from his journey, however, he is believed to have been taken over by evil spirits. He starts believing that his queen is cheating on him, his son is not his own and even tries to kill his own son. Eventually, the king…

Unloved

In life, we come across many times when we feel unloved. Thoughts such as “Nobody loves me”, “Nobody cares about me”, “Nobody has ever truly loved me” and “Nobody ever will love me” surface our minds and fill our lives with dark clouds. In those times, even though we cannot find any proof of being loved by anyone to convince ourselves of the existence of love in our lives, it’s comforting to know that we are so wrong. So so wrong.  Life is really too short to be living questioning love rather than believing in it every single day. Happy…

It was not always all smiles

Yes. This was the unfortunate truth of life. It was not always possible to be a smiley face. It was also not always possible to be a sad face either. Two months ago, I started questioning some things. If I am really considered “lucky” (as per my life horoscope), how is being sick lucky at all? Why were terrible things happening to me all over again? Why did I, at a very young age, always had to deal with stupid health problems that even doctors could never figure out the causes of? Why was I a victim of all of…

What is Warmth?

The theme of warmth in the Photography course I am taking made me think about what warmth really is. I saw plenty of photos shared by others for this theme. Some felt warm, some just felt like pictures in the sunlight. As I started to look at the comments, I observed that some people felt differently from what I felt about some photos. What I found to be not warm was warm for some others and vice versa. That got me thinking about what warmth really is. In the deepest corners of your heart where reality resides, warmth fills in what’s…
